As Managing Director of Leighton Contractors, David Jurd is leading the development of the company as a global leader in construction.

David has almost 30 years of experience as a Civil Engineer in Australia and the United Kingdom.

This has included the delivery of some of Australia’s most important infrastructure projects and a range of senior executive positions.

David commenced with Leighton Contractors in 2013 as Executive General Manager of the Infrastructure Division, leading four regional infrastructure businesses, national Rail and Ports and Marine businesses and our subsidiary Broad.

Prior to joining Leighton Contractors, David was Managing Director of Abigroup. He led key projects, including Sydney’s M2 Motorway and the $1.6b M7 Motorway, which at the time of delivery was Australia’s largest single infrastructure project.

John Kirkwood

Executive General Manager, Construction East

John Kirkwood is a senior construction professional with more than 38 years experience in the engineering and building construction industries.

As Executive General Manager – Construction East, John is responsible for the Australian east coast operations from Queensland to Tasmania, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. He also oversees Leighton Contractors’ national businesses in Rail and Major Projects & Tunnelling.

John commenced with Leighton Contractors in 2013 as General Manager – Northern Infrastructure, leading the business in Queensland, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, John was the National Operations Director with Abigroup. He oversaw four geographical regions, including the operational areas of Rail, Water, Energy, Telecommunications, Safety, Sustainability and Systems Development.

John held numerous positions throughout his 26 years with Abigroup, and led the delivery of significant projects including:

  • $2 billion Ipswich Highway
  • $1.8 billion Gateway Bridge Upgrade
  • $1.2 billion Adelaide Desalination Plant
  • Victoria’s $450 million Regional Rail Link
  • $900 million Queensland Children’s Hospital.

John has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Building) from the Queensland University of Technology, and is a member of the Executive Council of the Queensland Master Builders Association.

Ric Buratto

Ric Buratto

Executive General Manager, Construction West

Ric Buratto has more than 38 years experience in the construction and mining industries. He has held a number of high level management positions in major Australian companies, including Thiess, MacMahon, United Group, Henry Walker and Baulderstone Hornibrook.

As Executive General Manager – Construction West at Leighton Contractors, Ric is responsible for operations in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. He also oversees our national businesses in Energy & Resources and Power & Water, as well as our subsidiary Broad.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, from 2011 Ric was the Executive General Manager, Construction at Thiess, responsible for Australia-wide construction activities. He joined Thiess in 2000 as the General Manager, Western Australia and Northern Territory where he was instrumental in growing their local business, developing opportunities in the iron ore sector and LNG market.

At McMahon, Ric was responsible for all engineering and contract mining operations across Australia and New Zealand. He previously led national civil and underground mining operations for Henry Walker.

Ric has strong experience and skills across construction, including tender leadership, project planning and management, risk management and Alliances.

Ric is an Honours graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Adelaide and is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers.

Executive General Manager, People

Jane is the Executive General Manager, People, leading the key functional support areas of People & Capability; Indigenous Business & Strategy and Community Investment; Safety, Health & Environment; and Corporate Affairs & Communication. In living and supporting our value that ‘our people are the foundation of our success’, Jane’s primary and ongoing focus is leadership engagement, aligning our people and business strategies, and driving organisational and cultural change.

Jane’s career spans more than 20 years in the banking and finance, construction/infrastructure, IT and outsourcing sectors. During that time, she has worked in roles with an increasingly strategic remit, leading HR teams and functions at both Group and corporate levels, and with national and Asia-Pacific scope.

Prior to joining Leighton Contractors, Jane had early career roles in sales (Yellow Pages) and operational HR (banking, construction, engineering and retail). She then moved into director and executive level roles in HR with Avco, General Electric (GE) and Unisys, with a focus on aligning people strategy with business strategy.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Business (Management) from Monash University, and qualifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM).

Jean-Paul Wallace

Jean-Paul Wallace

General Counsel

Jean-Paul Wallace has a strong track record providing key legal advice and support as part of corporate leadership teams, including five years as a General Counsel.

At Leighton Contractors, Jean-Paul leads a team delivering services across a diverse range of activities including legal risk management, tenders and general commercial contract reviews, as well as providing project support and, if necessary, management of arbitration and litigation. He also leads the company secretary function, providing key services relating to Leighton Contractors’ statutory requirements.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, Jean-Paul was General Counsel at Tenix Australia. He has also held senior positions at UGL Limited, Downer EDI Limited and Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Jean-Paul’s experience means he combines knowledge acquired in private legal practice with the commercial skills and practical considerations of industry. Two years in a major legal firm in Hong Kong has also provided a valuable international perspective.

Jean-Paul has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Governance Institute of Australia.
