Acting Managing Director

Roman has more than 24 years’ experience in engineering and construction, and a highly-regarded and successful history of strategic management, executive leadership and the development of new markets and opportunities.

He has significant international experience in the construction of major highway, bridge, tunnel, transit and building projects, as well as the design and construction of highway and bridge projects for public-private partnership (PPP) ventures.

As Acting Managing Director, Roman is leading the transformation of Leighton Contractors into a more focused and sustainable construction company, with the scale and capability to compete internationally.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, Roman was Deputy Managing Director of John Holland (JHG), and prior to this, Dragados, S.A.’s Managing Director of Australia and Dragados’ Managing Director of the United States and Canada.

Roman has a Masters in Civil Engineering Education from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and is a member of the National Society of Civil Engineers (Spain).

Executive General Manager, Construction East

John Kirkwood is a senior construction professional with more than 38 years experience in the engineering and building construction industries.

As Executive General Manager – Construction East, John is responsible for the Australian east coast operations from Queensland to Tasmania, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. He also oversees Leighton Contractors’ national businesses in Rail and Major Projects & Tunnelling.

John commenced with Leighton Contractors in 2013 as General Manager – Northern Infrastructure, leading the business in Queensland, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, John was the National Operations Director with Abigroup. He oversaw four geographical regions, including the operational areas of Rail, Water, Energy, Telecommunications, Safety, Sustainability and Systems Development.

John held numerous positions throughout his 26 years with Abigroup, and led the delivery of significant projects including:

  • $2 billion Ipswich Highway
  • $1.8 billion Gateway Bridge Upgrade
  • $1.2 billion Adelaide Desalination Plant
  • Victoria’s $450 million Regional Rail Link
  • $900 million Queensland Children’s Hospital.

John has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Building) from the Queensland University of Technology, and is a member of the Executive Council of the Queensland Master Builders Association.

Stuart leads Leighton Contractors’ business in WA, SA and NT, with accountability for its business activity in the public infrastructure, resources, energy and building sectors. He has a strong focus on working with people to deliver safe, profitable and sustainable outcomes for all stakeholders.

An engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in the infrastructure, resources and energy sectors, Stuart has held leadership positions with large multi-nationals, ASX-listed and privately-owned construction and engineering businesses.

His experience covers all phases of the project lifecycle: pre-project, project execution and asset operation and maintenance, across many market sectors.

Projects delivered under Stuart’s leadership include major construction and EPC contracts on Chevron’s world-scale Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects, and BHP Billiton’s iron ore expansion program. He has also held leadership roles in public infrastructure projects, including the design and construction of roads, and water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Stuart has worked for the CIMIC Group of companies since 2012, starting as GM, WA & NT for Thiess. He joined Leighton Contractors in 2014 as GM, Energy & Resources, and in May 2015 was appointed EGM, Construction – West.

He has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Exeter in the UK.

Tim Harris has had wide-ranging experience across more than 20 years in senior finance roles.

Before becoming Chief Financial Officer at Leighton Contractors in October 2014, Tim was Executive General Manager of Business Performance at Transfield Services, having previously held the roles of CFO, Infrastructure and General Manager, Rail.

Prior to Transfield Services, Tim was Group CFO for Brookfield property group in Australia and held various senior global finance positions with the Westfield Group.

Tim has also worked for Lion Nathan Australia, Southcorp Wines and The Walt Disney Company in London.

Tim is a Chartered Accountant, having trained with Ernst & Young in London.

Jane Sherlock

Executive General Manager, People

Jane is the Executive General Manager, People, leading the key functional support areas of People and Capability; Safety, Health, Environment and Quality; Corporate Affairs and Communication; and Indigenous and Community.

Jane’s primary and ongoing focus is the safety and engagement of our people, aligning our people and business strategies, and driving organisational and cultural change.

Jane’s career spans more than 20 years in the banking and finance, construction/ infrastructure, IT and outsourcing sectors. During that time, she has worked in roles with an increasingly strategic remit, leading HR teams and functions at both Group and corporate levels, and with national and Asia-Pacific scope.

Prior to joining Leighton Contractors, Jane had early career roles in sales (Yellow Pages) and operational HR (banking, construction, engineering and retail). She then moved into director and executive lead roles in HR with Avco, General Electric (GE) and Unisys, with a focus on aligning people strategy with business strategy.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Business (Management) from Monash University, and qualifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM).

Jean-Paul Wallace

Jean-Paul Wallace

General Counsel

Jean-Paul Wallace has a strong track record providing key legal advice and support as part of corporate leadership teams, including five years as a General Counsel.

At Leighton Contractors, Jean-Paul leads a team delivering services across a diverse range of activities including legal risk management, tenders and general commercial contract reviews, as well as providing project support and, if necessary, management of arbitration and litigation. He also leads the company secretary function, providing key services relating to Leighton Contractors’ statutory requirements.

Before joining Leighton Contractors, Jean-Paul was General Counsel at Tenix Australia. He has also held senior positions at UGL Limited, Downer EDI Limited and Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Jean-Paul’s experience means he combines knowledge acquired in private legal practice with the commercial skills and practical considerations of industry. Two years in a major legal firm in Hong Kong has also provided a valuable international perspective.

Jean-Paul has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Governance Institute of Australia.
