We recognise that Community Relations is integral to successfully delivering major projects. We strive to partner with our communities and work together to meet mutual goals.
Community implications are proactively assessed prior to and during project delivery. Dedicated Community Relations personnel are available on many of our projects to provide regular updates and answer questions. Public display centres, websites, information lines and community meetings are activated on our projects with a significant community interface.
Construction and Mining impacts such as dust, noise and vibration are closely monitored and mitigated wherever possible.
As an example, we have restricted operations at our coal mine in the Hunter Valley to 12 hours a day to ensure local residents are not disturbed at night.
Often our projects have an impact on commuters who travel through our sites. During the redevelopment of Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station an estimated 50,000 travellers a day, required access to the station and platforms. Our teams used regular advertising, newsletters, displays and a web site to maintain the flow of information and minimise disruption.
