Duralie Mine is a medium sized, open-cut coal mine, which is part of Yancoal’s Gloucester Basin operations.
Duralie contributes raw coking and thermal coal products, which are washed at the Stratford operation to produce coking coal and thermal coal for export markets.
At Duralie, Leighton Contractors is responsible for mining services, which include open-cut mining operations, mine planning and rehabilitation.
Duralie prides itself on its high standard of environmental compliance and dealing with complex geological conditions, the presence of public infrastructure and adjacent rural neighbours.
On site, the coal seams dip steeply and mining operations require a great deal of expertise. Rehabilitation of mining areas has commenced and will continue progressively.
Once mined, coal is dumped into the train loader hopper and railed to Stratford for processing. Equipment is operated and maintained on site by teams of trained and skilled people.
Leighton Contractors employs approximately 140 people at Duralie, including subcontracting personnel. The mine operates on a six day roster, working 10.5- hour production day and night shifts. A majority of employees live locally.
