We’re on a journey to provide a culture and environment that reflects our strong values and the importance of diversity within our company.
As part of this commitment, we’re strengthening our ties with Indigenous communities by promoting fulfilling careers for Indigenous people.
As a corporate employer, we signed up to the Australian Employment Covenant (AEC) and we achieved our target of 500 new jobs in July 2011.
Not only do we develop Indigenous employment opportunities at all levels of our business, we’re also:
- Sponsoring foundations that target disadvantaged youth
- Increasing our commitment to partnerships such as Jawun, Clontarf Foundation and the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF)
- Rolling out cultural awareness programs to all employees
In addition, we welcomed Shirley McPherson as Group Manager, Indigenous Business in October 2011. Shirley is the former Chair of the Indigenous Land Corporation and Ngarda Civil and Mining, and brings a wealth of experience to Leighton Contractors.
We’re currently implementing a range of new initiatives to improve the scope of opportunities available to Indigenous peoples within our business. Our 2011–2014 Strategic Plan for Indigenous Participation aims to ensure a coordinated approach to Indigenous recruitment and retention, and to improve our Indigenous community engagement practices.
Our Indigenous program is supported by a dedicated Indigenous Unit and resources.
If you’re an Indigenous Australian and are interested in working for Leighton Contractors, please apply here. And remember – new vacancies appear regularly.
The benefits of working with us are many.
