Safety and health above all else
Making sure our people get home safely is the most important thing we do.
Thinking and working safely is part of our culture. We make it clear to our leaders and team members that:
- We don’t compromise safety for profit.
- We don’t cut corners.
- Every employee is empowered to stop work and take corrective action if they see a safety hazard.
We work hard to make our workplaces as safe as possible through constant monitoring and assessment, and by implementing a company-wide framework for managing safety and health.
The goal of our framework is Zero Harm. Our focus is on eliminating the potential for fatalities and permanent disabilities, while systematically reducing all other injuries.
The publication Safety and Health at Leighton Contractors clearly articulates our strategic safety and health objectives for 2011-2014.
In 2010, we launched the Leighton Contractors Safety Essentials.
The Safety Essentials are designed to give our teams the highest level of confidence that we’re identifying, eliminating and/or controlling critical risks in accordance with the requirements specified in each of the divisional Safety Essentials.
The Safety Essentials were developed from lessons our people have learned on the job, and have now been rolled out across 150 of our sites. Part of our day-to-day working culture, the Safety Essentials continue to be embedded across our business. Our aim is to ‘work above the line’ for every activity that carries a critical risk.
