Head office in Port Moresby marks our permanent presence in PNG21 Nov 12
Leighton Contractors celebrated the expansion of its operations in the Pacific region at the official opening of its Leighton PNG head office in Port Moresby on 8 November 2012.
This marks a significant milestone for Leighton PNG, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leighton Contractors, and the company’s permanent presence in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Craig Laslett, Managing Director of Leighton Contractors, said the office opening reflects Leighton Contractors’ growth strategy and long-term commitment to the burgeoning PNG market.
“The opening of our office in Port Moresby marks our desire to increase our on-ground presence and expand our operations in PNG in the petroleum and minerals sector, as well in the delivery of civil and social infrastructure including roads, ports and airports, hospitals, schools and buildings,” Mr Laslett said.
“We believe PNG has a very bright future and Leighton Contractors, through Leighton PNG, is committed to working in partnership with government and business to help untap its great potential.”
Mr Laslett said Leighton PNG provides a unique service offering to clients in the PNG market, which has translated successfully on two projects delivered to date for ExxonMobil.
“The strength of our people and our commitment to our company values, strong leadership and our continuous strive for excellence sets our team apart, and will enable us to be a trusted partner integral to our client’s success,” Mr Laslett said.
“While our sights are firmly fixed on expanding Leighton PNG’s operations, this will go hand-in-hand with our ongoing commitment to contribute to PNG’s economic development.”
Leighton PNG’s recent experience in PNG demonstrated the company’s commitment to Indigenous and local engagement through employment and training of local people and assisting local businesses and communities build successful and sustainable business partnerships.
“In its delivery of the PNG LNG Site Preparation Works, the team secured 80 per cent local participation and provided the local workforce training, mentoring and coaching.
“We understand the importance of local participation for successful project delivery. By working closely with all local stakeholders we can maximise the benefits to communities through their meaningful participation.”
