Broad’s first civil project wins award27 Jun 12
Broad, a fully owned subsidiary of Leighton Holdings through Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd , is pleased to announce that the St Georges Terrace Streetscape Enhancement project in Perth’s CBD, has been presented with the Master Builders Western Australia Excellence in Construction – Best Civil Engineering Works Under $20 Million award, held at the Perth Convention Centre on Saturday, 23 June 2012.
Broad was awarded the honour in recognition of the project’s innovation, professionalism and high quality and safety standards. The award marks Broad’s first civil project accolade, presented only 18 months after Broad’s portfolio extended to include a civil construction arm to reflect the ever increasing involvement in the delivery of civil infrastructure services.
“The St Georges Terrace Streetscape Enhancement was Broad’s first civil project and showcases the team’s ability of delivering to a very high standard. We look forward to celebrating many more accolades as Broad’s civil capability grows across the Group nationally”, said Khanh Nguyen, General Manager – Civil.
The works for the City of Perth commenced in September 2010 and reached practica”l completion in July 2011, well in advance of the highly anticipated Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2011. The St Georges Streetscape Enhancement has transformed the Terrace between Barrack Street and William Street into an attractive pedestrian-orientated setting for the State’s foremost business and commercial district.
The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi said “I was very pleased to hear of Broad’s success at the MBA Awards. It is very clear from our involvement with them, their staff and work is highly professional and they were a great organisation to work with on such a major city project.”
Entering into the civil infrastructure market extends the scope of Broad’s project capabilities within new niche areas, providing a synergistic approach to the services Broad offers to its clients. Broad’s civil operation has since delivered further projects in the Perth metro and regional areas of Western Australia, and have recently secured major civil projects including stages two and three of the Riverside Waterbank Project in East Perth, Western Australia, Palm Island Residential Sub Division, Queensland and Bay View Terrace Streetscape in Claremont, Western Australia.
